Poet and Writer

Andrea O'Brien is a practicing poet and writer. She lives in central Kentucky, although she considers Wisconsin her home away from home. While she devotes her time primarily to poetry, Andrea also writes fiction, creative nonfiction, and children's literature. Additionally, she has worked as a technical writer and editor for software, medical device, and industry-specific publications. Learn more about Andrea's background.

Current Projects

The Nearness of Miracles and Strangers, Andrea's first book-length poetry collection, is under consideration by several presses.

The Kentucky Foundation for Women awarded Andrea a 2007 Artist Enrichment grant to begin writing her second collection of poems.

During the winter session at the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning, Andrea will lead Come to Your Senses: Beginning Poetry Writing. In this introduction to poetry, Andrea and participants will explore the craft and art through the five senses.
